Find Books and Documents--and some primary resources
Notes:
  • Language becomes important when searching any of these databases.  Some give the option to search in either English or Spanish, so use the language that is apporpriate.   Other times you may need to do 2 searches, one with the English words and one with the Spanish words.  For example, when searching for a book in Spanish but you do not know the title, try a keyword search first on the English word (it may be in the subject headings in Engllish) and then do one in Spanish that might find the word in the Spanish Language title.
  • Subject Headings which might prove useful to you:
    • Mexico History Spanish Colony 1540-1810
    • Mexico History (then combine it with maybe  keyword(s)
    • Latin America History to 1830 (broadens out a search and may include sources that include Mexico)
    • Sources (to identify primary resources in books)
    • Try the name of a specific Indian tribe or culture or archeological site
