Eddie Yeghiayan

The Humanities Bibliographic Resource

The resource features a large number of the scholarly bibliographies prepared by bibliographer Eddie Yeghiayan. The resource is divided into three subsections, each of which can be browsed and searched:

The Critical Theory Resource

I. The Wellek Library Lecturer Bibliographies

The Annual Wellek Library Lecture Series at the University of California, Irvine was inaugurated in 1981 by the Critical Theory Institute as a tribute to Professor René Wellek and in support of new scholarship. In the Spring of every year, a distinguished critic defends his or her critical stance over the course of three lectures. Between 1986 and 2002, Mr. Yeghiayan compiled detailed bibliographies detailing not only the work of each lecturer, but much of the related secondary literature as well.

In addition, there are bibliographies of well-known critical and literary theorists, such as Paul de Man, Ihab Hassan and Eugeno Donato.

II. The UC Humanities Research Institute Bibliographies

The UC Humanities Research Institute was established on the Irvine campus in 1987 by the University of California Office of the President. Its objective is to promote collaborative research among University of California scholars and their national and international colleagues. Scholars organize in research groups, usually with one or two groups of 8-10 fellows each in residence every quarter of the academic year. In addition, the UC Humanities Research Institute sponsors between eight and ten conferences annually on the UC campuses to promote advanced research in the Humanities. Successful conferences often lead to the formation of a research group, and research groups occasionally finish their work by holding a public conference.

Mr. Yeghiayan prepared selective bibliographies for many of these conferences with the intention of introducing the scholars in attendance to one another's work. Typically, these documents listed the major works to date of the participants along with a limited amount of secondary material. Because these bibliographies were conceived as integral parts of the conference proceedings, their contents were not updated since the date of the conference.

III. Philosophy Bibliographic Resource (click here for a new page, conveniently listing all the bibliographies on Philosophers)

This includes previously unpublished bibliographies prepared by Mr. Yeghiayan for Philosophy Colloquia on the UC Irvine campus from 1987 to 2002, as well as other bibliographies on philosophers, at Irvine and elsewhere.
