CALIFORNIA POPULATION DATA RESOURCES

Web Data Resources (General and Subject)     Web-based Indexes      Paper Sources of Information   Sample Search

Introduction:
    1.  Under Web Data Resources, there are several sources of information supplied here  to help find statistics.  Each one may have statistics not found in some of the others.  So as you do your research, you may need to use more than one.  The annotations will help guide you in general.
    2.  Counting California is easy to use and has statistics on all your topics.  But you may need more than is provided there.  For instance, as you look at your topics, you may need a piece of information for an area smaller than a county or city.  Then you will have to use a resource like the 2000 Census, Summary File 3, which is not yet on Counting California by is on American Factfinder.  Or, you may need a different time line or subject than you find.  Try some of the other sources.
    3.  At the very bottom, I have given you a simple sample search strategy.  It might help.
    4.  Many, but not all, data sources are available via the web.  Many statistic for earlier years may be in paper or possibly on a CD-ROM.
    5.  Sources produced by different agencies may cover different years or be compiled using different methods. Watch
for data that may not be comparable over different sources.  e.g., U.S. Census data is not the same as data collected by California Dept. of Finance, or, Decennial Census data may not be comparable to Current Population Reports or Economic Cenus reports.

PUBMED is good for articles on health.  Will have some policy (PAIS better for that).
